Food Blog | Sedap Kitchen Dubai | Dubai Creek

Formerly known as Kim’s Singapore Seafood, I honestly think that the revitalized Sedap Kitchen is a place where you can get a wonderful taste of Singapore with a beautiful view overlooking Dubai Creek.

Update: (08/05/22) Sedap kitchen is making a move to a new location. I’ll update (if I remember XD) when I am aware of their new location. This location is closed.

Where It Is

Sedap Kitchen is located in Dubai Creek. I would say it is quite out of the way - but you can also get nice photos at the Insta-worthy Starbucks at Dubai creek, as well as complete your meal with a nice dessert from Yuki-no-Hana.

Parking is free - but Dubai creek is fairly big, so make sure that you park within the vicinity of the restaurant. unless you are keen on a walk. The restaurant itself is located on the second floor and there are both indoor and outdoor seatings. I would say that this is a nice spot to go just before/after winter as it’s nice to sit outdoors at Sedap Kitchen, overlooking Dubai Creek.

Address: Al Seef By MERAAS opposite the British Embassy, Dubai Creek, Umm Hurair Dubai

Weekends (Friday & Saturday): 1-11 pm

What it Costs

What I will say about this place is that this is definitely one of the pricier places to get South East Asian food (Malaysia/Singapore). My family of 3 ate for a grand total of AED139.60 (approx. 46 AED/person). I would say this is still cheap to an okay-priced meal by Dubai standards, but compared to other Malaysian/Singapore food, it is a bit towards the expensive side.

Breakdown:

Large Prawn Mee (AED43)
Beef Rendang (AED48)
Small Laksa (AED28)
Steamed Rice (AED8)
Large Still Water (AED25)

5% VAT + 7% municipality tax

Do note they have a loyalty card - and you get a 12.5% discount on your first visit - going up to 50% - so be sure to ask for it and it does benefit to be a regular patron of Sedap Kitchen with the loyalty card.

Total: AED139.60

How It Tastes

I think I’ll start off with the main attraction: the prawn mee! I will start off by saying that in general, I’m a bigger fan of the brown style of Hokkien Mee (Kuala Lumpur style). However, I honestly think that this prawn mee/Hokkien mee is super legit. You literally know from the first bite that this is a damn good Hokkien Mee and I’m serious as I get saying that.

The noodles are also great with the sambal. I really appreciate that they don’t stinge on the sambal - giving it before we even requested it - and a decent amount as well.

Next up, the rendang. I’m a BIG fan of rendang. Probably to the point that rendang is my benchmark of how good a Malaysian/Singaporean restaurant is. And what I’ll say is that this is probably the best I’ve had so far in Dubai. Lovely color and texture of the sauce. I honestly think that the sauce is exactly what you want from rendang - the only thing I would say this dish misses is the melt-in-your-mouth nature of your usual beef rendang. This one is a bit more on the rubbery side - but I still think this is a really good rendang.

Last of all, the Laksa. I say this with the caveat that this is actually a very cheap dish (AED28). I would say that this Laksa doesn’t have the immediate impact - flavors are not as strong. But what I’ll definitely say is that it grows on you. The more you eat it, the tastier it gets. It really is a very strange sensation for me to describe - but for me, I still prefer the laksa from Noodle House, personally.

If you do come here, I would definitely recommend the prawn/Hokkien Mee and the beef rendang.

Star Rating

8.5/10. The single best experience in Dubai that will remind you of Singapore is that prawn mee, and I’m serious when I say that. It’s much better to have it at the restaurant instead of the Expo because it gets soggy with the transportation, storage.

This is seriously very high on my recommendations list for food from South East Asia in Dubai.
