Quick Bites | Breakfast @ Tart by Sugardough | Shelter Hall | Brighton

Just a quick review of a breakfast me and my girlfriend had in Brighton. This time it is Tart by Sugardough, which is inside Shelter Hall, Brighton (right by the beach). This is actually an excellent spot to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner because it is basically an ‘atas’ kind of food court with lots of different options here.

Initially, we had intended to come here to try the Bross Bagels stall, but we didn’t really see it, so we instead went with Tart by Sugardough. Apparently, Bross Bagels was open, just that we don’t know how to find it XD. Nothing else was available when we went (around 9, 10 in the morning).

Where It Is

It is located right along the beach (same level as the beach) and between the old West Pier and Brighton Palace Pier. It’s pretty hard to miss because Shelter Hall is really bright and colorful. When we went, it was super clean - so you could either eat inside / outside / takeaway your food to the beach.

How it Tastes

The mocha actually came in a pretty big cup and is a pretty nice cup of coffee if I can say so myself. A good start to the day!

Just a note: the cheese ham croissant took around 5-10 mins and I would say it is worth the wait! A really good savory croissant that comes piping hot. Crispy, but not too hard. A really classic combination that makes for a really yummy breakfast.

The chocolate marmalade croissant is also really good. You can see just from the photos how golden brown and delicious it looks - and it is reflected in the flavor as well. Crispy, warm, and sweet - which creates a nice contrast with the cheese ham croissant. I would say that these two are quite close to opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to sweet vs savory variations of a croissant and they’re both delicious.

Star Rating

7.5/10. Definitely on the pricey end for croissants and a dessert - but this isn’t an ordinary croissant! Shelter Hall is also something that I think most people should check out one way or another (whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner) because there are a lot of different options in here for everyone!
