Is it Halal
My understanding is that they are the very least halal friendly, with no pork served. I’m not personally sure about their actual halal certification itself, but if that is a concern on your end, do just check with them so that there aren’t any misunderstandings on that front.
Where it Is
Substance is located at Courtyard by Marriot, Kuala Lumpur South. I think most people would be able to identify it from being very near Bloomsvale Shopping Gallery. Parking is fairly reasonable, at RM2 for the first 2 hours and RM1 every hour after - this is the parking connected to Bloomsvale Mall.
What it Costs
They’re having a promotional rate at the moment, with their dinner buffet offering running at RM128 / adult (normal price RM188 per person). Kids between 6 - 12 years old can eat at 50% off and those under 6 can eat for free. I would say price-wise, it might be a bit on the steeper side, but I would say the spread is still pretty big and it’s generally a really nice spot for large Christmas get togethers.
The Food
The variety in their buffet spread is seriously superb. My highlights would definitely be the desserts - their dessert spread is seriously so big. Lots of Christmas vibes, lots for your sweet tooth to munch on. From their selection of fruits, their chocolate fountain (both normal and white chocolate), to their ice cream selection, cakes and even their small tarts section.
Their meats are definitely the second highlight. From the beef wellington, to the salmon, to the chicken, their meat selection is truly stunning and a nice selection among those that I have seen in Malaysia. But it absolutely doesn’t end there. They have a large salad section, lots of seafood ranging from clams to prawns to even sushi, and even two large Chinese and Indian cuisine sections, so i would say there really is something for everyone!
But I think the strength of this place is definitely the Christmas spirit and the fact that it is a great environment for large gatherings, as I would definitely say this is a great spot for meetups and larger gatherings, as there really is a great selection of food here.
If you want to finish up the night with some drinks, you can even head over to At 137 over at their Ground Floor. It’s a really nice, chill spot for some late night drinks! I got to try their Christmas selection. They have 3 specially curated drinks from their Christmas selection:
Courtyard Elf Tini - Vodka, Green Apple Juice, Lime Juice, mint syrup and sparkling water (Green)
Jack Frost Cocktail Vodka - Vodka, Pineapple Juice, Cream of Coconut (Blue)
Cranberry Mimosa Sparkling Wine - Cranberry Juice, Orange Juice, Prosecco (Red)
I personally think that the Jack Frost looks the best but I enjoyed the Elf Tini the most. But I would say all 3 are unique and they probably look the best as a set of 3.

Lots of cute decorations all over and a great buffet selection post to boot! A great place for Christmas gatherings.
