Bibz Picks | Best Games to Play with Friends on Steam

As the quarantine situation around the world changes, I thought this would be a nice time to share a couple of nice games you can find on Steam that just about anyone can pick up and enjoy! Here’s my picks for games to play with friends on Steam.

Criteria

I want this list to be for just about anyone - meaning that just about anyone can pick up the game and enjoy themselves. The games chosen here might have a small skill cap involved, but they are relatively small compared to the other games out there.

1. Jackbox Party Pack

Players: 4-8 (ideal, but varies from game to game)
Skill-cap: Almost 0. Explanations at the start of games
Price: 1 player can buy to accommodate for 4 people (Around RM50 for 6 different games)

First on my list is Jackbox Party Pack! There are many different variations of the games available, but in order to test it out and see whether you like it, I highly recommend you download Drawful 2 (RM23 on Steam) just to test it out.

You just need one person to download the game before sharing your screen with the other players. All the other players have to do is then input the code from the screen and watch the game play out on the shared screen (you can use Discord, Skype or even Zoom for this).

The games are seriously lots of fun, and if you enjoy Drawful 2, you can go on and buy their party packs. Note: there are usually 6 games in each party pack - although not all are equally good. I recommend just watching some videos online and seeing which are suitable in order to pick which party packs to get (there’s a new one coming out this summer).

Games I personally recommend are:

a) Monster Seeking Monster (Jackbox Party Pack 4 - RM47)

You and all the other players have a secret ability that can earn you extra hearts. You also earn hearts for every date you go on in the night. What you want to do is try to convince other people to date you, but with the catch that you can only send 4 messages in total per night (meaning that sending 4 to one person makes the other person more convinced, whilst spreading your messages keeps your options open).

The messages are shared (most of the time), so lots of laughter often ensues!

b) Fibbage (Fibbage: Enough About You, Jackbox Party Pack 3 - RM47)

A really fun game - better among close friends (and bigger groups too!). What you basically get is a bunch of questions related to you guys - personal questions - and you guys pick and try to bait other people with what you think people will respond to those certain questions. Lots of fun, and you get to learn loads about your friends that you didn’t even know!

c) Patently Stupid (Jackbox Party Pack 5 - RM51)

This one is a severely under-rated. I played it the other day with friends and it is actually a whole lot of fun! This is fun because other people make the prompts for you and you try to solve that problem with some kind of invention. You name the product, give it a slogan and then present them to friends.

Honestly speaking though, this is properly one to play with more immature friends (because seriously, the things that can be made up can be so stupid).

2. Speedrunners

Players: 4 (Most ideal, but 3 works as well)
Skill-cap: It’s there, but it’s quite easy to pickup and learn
Price: RM31 per player (but 4 packs available)

This one is just good for lots of laughs and banter. You race around the maps (and there are many, including the workshop maps) with Mario-style drops that can help you freeze, grab and sling from wall to wall with your grappling hook.

This game can be made even more fun when you tinker with the modes slightly - I am a bit fun of SuperSpeedRunners (the ultra fast version of Speedrunners) as well as the one that rains rockets from the sky. This game is seriously a lot of fun.

3. DoTA Underlords

Players: 1-4, 6 & 8
Skill-cap: Play about 6 games and most people would be decent at this
Price: Free

I’m just sharing this one because it can be a whole lot of fun both solo and with friends in duos. I say this with the caveat that this game should be tinkered around a bit more in order to allow more players to play, but what can you do?

This game is basically Auto Chess (or another variation of Teamfight Tactics). You basically pick units with different abilities before trying to pair them up to build alliances, which can give you buffs (eg. extra armour, enemy reduces armour, HP increases when the unit kills an enemy unit, etc. ).

This is probably the highest skill-cap game I’ve shared so far, but me and my buddies play a whole lot of it deep into the night, so this is something that is seriously addictive (even if you’re losing, I’m serious).

4. Gangbeasts

Players: 4-8 Players (Recommended)
Skillcap: Almost none
Price: RM38 per player

This is one of those games where even the most useless player can win, just because of how silly the physics is. Just imagine WWE and you have to throw someone out of the ring, or into a grinder. That’s the best way to put it, but the physics of this game looks silly and this game is just a whole lot of fun!

5. Headsnatchers

Players: 4 players recommended
Skillcap: Almost none
Price: RM32 per player

Really similar to Gangbeasts, but the premise of this game is that you beat other players up before stealing other players heads in order to win the game. Lots of simple, unadulterated fun as well! (The customization on this game is pretty cute too XD)

6. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Players: 2 players (recommended, but can be more)
Skillcap: Absolutely none
Price: RM31 per player

Imagine you’re trapped in a situation where there’s a bomb in your room and you call the police. He can only give you instructions based on what he sees in the manual in front of him and you can only take them, whilst giving him insight on what you see. That’s basically what you have here.

This is one of those games whereby you and your friend are absolutely going to be killing each other once the bomb explodes/you guys just about diffuse the bomb. Lots of fun!
