Food Blog | Goldfish Sushi and Yakitori | Galleria Mall | Al Wasl | Dubai

Got another place to share to get your Japanese food cravings fix and this time I’m sharing my thoughts about my visit to Goldfish Sushi & Yakitori! This is a pretty hip sushi/yakitori joint focusing on high-quality casual Japanese dining, here’s what I thought!

Context: Came here for dinner with my sister. Everything ordered is from the a-la-carte menu, I’m not personally aware whether there’s a business lunch. It’s next to Home Bakery - which is IMMENSELY popular around dinner/post-dinner time, so if you want you can even get your dessert there!

Where It Is

Goldfish is located at Galleria Mall - along Al Wasl road. You can even see it from the parking/main road. Depending on the day, you might need to pay for parking (through SMS - I believe the parking code is 343C but do check just in case).

There are quite a few dessert spots here that can complete your meal afterward including Cocoa Room, Home Bakery, and Magnolia Bakery - so I would personally recommend having your dinner at Goldfish and then completing your meal at one of the abovementioned bakeries.

Address: Goldfish Sushi & Yakitori - 403 Al Wasl Rd - Al Wasl - Dubai

Operating Hours:

Daily: 12pm - 12am

What it Costs

Me and my sister ate here for a grand total of AED445. I would say that this is on the higher end for two people - we got drinks and quite a few starters. I would say AED200 per person would probably be my ballpark figure for what 2 people would usually spend when they eat at Goldfish.

Here’s a breakdown of what we got:

Green Bean Tempura (AED38)
Salmon Nigiri (AED40 x 3 | AED120)
Spicy Tuna (AED46)
Flamed Chili Salmon (AED56)
Yakitori - Chicken Wings (AED15 x 2 | AED30)
Yakitori - Chicken Breast and Miso (AED15 x 2 | AED30)
Yakitori - Tuna and Shishito (AED20)
Chicken Noodles (AED35)
Drink - 1 X PNP, 1 X Passion Cooler (AED35 x 2 | AED70)

Total: AED445

No other taxes on top. You can take a full look at their menu by clicking on this link right over here!

How it Tastes

So, starting off with the green bean tempura. Honestly, loved it! To be fair I haven’t really tried green bean tempura before but it closely resembles the taste and texture of pumpkin fritters/sweet potato fries (without the sweet potato taste). Honestly, loved it.

Great finger food. It also comes with a sauce which is pretty tasty. I initially thought it was a bit too gooey (more liquid than solid - I usually like something a bit more solid when going for a mayo-like sauce) but it works. Lovely appetizer and I can see why it’s a popular dish here.

Next up, the salmon nigiri. I would say the salmon here is decent. Definitely on the higher end of the sushis that I have personally tasted but not really challenging that top step. Overall, decent sushi.

I would actually recommend the spicy tuna and the flamed chili salmon more. I honestly love the sauces that are in both of them. The flamed chili salmon is actually pretty interesting because it is basically snow crab, cucumber, and salmon in teriyaki sauce together with these crunchy bits garnished on top. Honestly, I think both taste absolutely great!

My favorite, though, was definitely the yakitori. The beautiful char on the meat and that lovely coating of sauce on the outside is just marvelous!

My favorite is definitely the Yakitori Chicken Breast & Miso. You basically have a piece of chicken breast marinated in miso and mirin served up yakitori style. The texture, the char, and the lovely outer coating make this such an extraordinary bite. I honestly recommend if you want to try one, try this one. I even thought it was scallops at a certain point because of the texture, but I double-checked and it was indeed chicken breast.

The chicken wings and the tuna are really good as well. I would say that the chicken wings aren’t the easiest. to get off the stick, but they taste fantastic and this is definitely one of the appropriate places to describe the food as finger-licking good.

My sister wanted the chicken noodles because that’s the kind of meal/dinner she’s more accustomed to, but I would say when coming here, don’t order the chicken noodles - there are lots of other delicious things on the menu. The chicken noodles are quite similar to a maggi goreng/mee goreng (Malaysian dish) that you can find elsewhere.

Star Rating

8/10. I honestly love the food here. It has given me an entirely different view on Yakitori - because I would say I haven’t had too many great yakitori experiences thus far, so I would say this is a place I highly recommend to get your fix of authentic Japanese food!
