Food Blog | PS. Cafe Harding Road (Dempsey Hill Cafe)

In Singapore this time for the Christmas period and my dad wanted to share a place that he personally enjoyed previously. It is the super pretty and yummy cafe PS. Cafe (we tried the one at Harding Road because the other ones were pretty much impossible to get into).

Context: Came here for a Christmas Eve dinner with my family (minus one of my sisters) - meaning a party of 4. We managed to grab a table outside after making a call at around 4pm (managed to eventually book a table for 8.30pm). This is one of those places you probably want to call and book beforehand.

Is it Halal?

Pork and wine are served here - this is a non-halal eatery (they do have some vegan/other meat options), so do eat at your own discretion when it comes down to this.

Just a look at their cake selections! (Their desserts are awesome!)

Where it Is?

It is located at Dempsey Hill down Harding Road, but what I’ll say is that you might want to go one round around the restaurant in order to find the best parking (because you will realise that there isn’t a specific parking for PS. Cafe itself since it is down a narrow road). I personally parked at the square where Culina at Como (quite a lot of parking spaces there which I believe are free to park at) is located.

(If you are in a rush and need a parking straight away, I recommend just setting your GPS for Culina at Como straight away and parking - just park right after exiting the roundabout).

Just walk down the road for a bit and you’ll find PS. Cafe!

Truffle Shoestring Fries (SGD15)

What it Costs

The meal for the 4 of us came up to SGD267. My family play this price prediction game where we have to try and guess the price of the final bill without any other information, and I guessed RM270 (my family were thereabouts) so I would say it is fairly worth the price.

We got their signature truffle shoestring fries to start (SGD15), as well as two of their mushroom soup (SGD14 x 2)!

For mains we got two of their Crab Tarts (SGD32 x 2 - we saw this as being a popular dish being served at PS. Cafe from Burpple), a Pork Tomahawk (SGD36 - but this one is a Christmas special) and a St. Louis’ Ribs (SGD34).

To finish off the meal, we got a Coconut Bakewell Tart (SGD12) and a Sticky Date Pudding (SGD15). (For all those people who have seen the pictures of their pineapple meringue pie, it is no longer being served at PS. Cafe Harding Road).

We also had an iced chocolate and a honey drink of some sort that my dad ordered.

How it Tastes

The first thing that hit my mum’s palette is that the food here isn’t that salty! I would say that I would probably agree with this too, as the food is definitely on the healthier end on the spectrum.

Mushroom Soup (SGD14)

Starting off with the fries. Has all the qualities of a good truffle oil french fries. For all those cheese haters out there, it isn’t even THAT cheesy. It is pretty easy to shake off the cheese as well if that bothers you a lot. (My sister is a cheese hater and still didn’t mind this one too much) But pretty yummy (and really big to the point that this is the one thing we didn’t manage to finish).

The mushroom soup is pretty yum too, you have that very strong wild mushroom taste that you can only get from good mushroom soup and you have a nice piece of bread to accompany the soup.

PS. Cafe Crab Tart

PS. Cafe Crab Tart

For the mains, I’ll start off with the crab tart. A pretty main dish that almost feels like it is intended to somewhat look like a crab. But basically you have a LOT of crab meat in there and it goes very well with the ‘sauce’ in the bisque in the pool surrounding the pie. The crab-by flavour is actually really delicious and the salad on the top just adds that extra layer of flavour that makes this pretty yummy.

PS. Cafe St. Louis Ribs

The St. Louis Ribs aren’t exactly those melt in your mouth, straight off the bone kind of ribs but they are no slouch either. There’s a great glaze on the ribs and the side dishes are pretty well seasoned and nice tasting as well.

(As you can see, the general trend is that I’m quite a bit fan of the food here in general)

Pork Tomahawk Christmas PS. Cafe

For the last main, we had the pork tomahawk. A lot of acidity in there with the sauce and the side of spiced carrots and the sour cherries which makes for a nice combination. I don’t think that this will be around for that much longer, so this one will probably be gone from their menus pretty quickly.

PS. Cafe Sticky Date Pudding

For desserts, I would say the sticky date pudding is on an almost MUST TRY status. I love those desserts that have a hot component mixed with an iced cream, and this is exactly that. The hot butterscotch sauce, the warm cake and the cold ice cream make a perfect combination. Love the taste and the balance of the dish.

Coconut Bakewell Tart PS. Cafe

The Coconut Bakewell Tart is also a pretty good option. I would probably say this is more in the cake category in comparison to a tart. The coconut taste isn’t that strong, but this is a really good light dessert that (in contrast to the first dessert) can help you finish the meal on a relaxed note. (I think the cakes around here look good in general, so I would say this is more of a place you MUST COME for desserts rather than anything else)

Star Rating

8.5/10. As you know, this is pretty high for my blog, but this place is fantastic. Great food, nice ambience, a very responsive service team and just overall a very nice experience. Really yum! I’ll probably say the dishes you SHOULD order are probably the truffle fries (if you have the numbers for it), the crab tart and the sticky date pudding!
