Food Blog | Yellow Bake Day SS2 | SS2 | Petaling Jaya
Having previously been a fan of Yellow Bake Day cakes in Johor Bahru, I was pretty excited to have their cakes once again - this time being a dine-in experience, with their brand new cafe at SS2!
Yellow Bake Day SS2
Is it Halal
I had initially thought it was a Muslim friendly cafe, but I did see that they served a Blackforest Rum cake which makes me think otherwise. So if this is one of your concerns, do just check with them on certain cakes. I’m sure they’re more than happy to tell you which are the suitable cakes for you and to make the appropriate recommendations.
Where it Is
Yellow Bake Day is located at SS2, but not in the main square with the basketball court. It’s located on a row of shops less than 5 mins away from that main square. I can imagine parking being challenging on certain days, but was quite easy for me to find parking on the day itself.
Went there at around 4pm - the cafe itself was full, so we had to wait for a short bit before getting out seats.
Address: 50, Jalan SS 2/24, SS 2, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Operating Hours:

What it Costs
They have quite a big selection of cakes and desserts - I’ll separate what I’ve tried previously at the JB branch, you can click here to see that full review (at the time, there wasn’t dine in). But here’s the two things I tried:
Cake Selection Yellow Bake Day
Coconut Coffee Tuile | RM19
Pumpkin Smoked Duck Quiche | RM23
Service Charge (6%) | RM2.52
Total (After Rounding) | RM44.50
This is for two, but I can see it being either around this price or a bit higher for two depending on if you get drinks. Prices for drinks are about what you’d expect for typical cafe drinks nowadays ~RM14 on average, but they do provide free water that you can sip on as you munch on your desserts.
Here’s just a list of other desserts I saw on offer + their pre-tax prices:
Cempedak Butter Cake (RM9) | Banana Cake (RM7) | Orange Chocolate Pound Cake (RM7) | Sourdough Bagel (RM15) | Apple Crumble w Mascarpone (RM18) | Canele (RM7.5 / RM11)
Wakatake Uji Matcha Cake (RM19) | Watermelon Almond Cake (RM19) | Pandan Yam (RM17) | Pistachio Cherry (RM22) | Pistachio Lemon (RM20) | Yuzu Hazelnut (RM20) | Jasmine Melon (RM19) | Pink Guava Oolong (RM19) | Mango Passion Oolong (RM18) | Japanese Rich Houjicha - Niko Neko (RM19) | Blackforest w. Rum (RM22) | Valrhona Carabe Dark Chocolate (RM19)
How it Tastes
Generally, a big fan of Yellow Bake Day and it really hasn’t changed with this short trip over to SS2. I think their Coconut Coffee Tuile was rich in flavour - kinda reminds you of a more elegant Tiramisu. I would say the coffee flavour is a bit stronger than the coconut flavour. I think generally what I would say I appreciate is the freshness and the pure flavours of the cakes.

The pumpkin smoked duck quiche is arguably even better for me, although I would have loved it to be hotter. They heat it up on the spot when you order, and I honestly think the combination of duck and pumpkin is almost surprisingly delicious. The pastry is probably a bit on the more solid, rather than crumbly end, but I think that’s down to personal preference. I perosonally think that the quiche pastry was really nice.

Star Rating
7.5/10. Liked it in JB, like it even more in KL. A lot of what I like about the KL version is that this is one of the nicest cafe ambiances I’ve experienced. Really clean, which I think I appreciate and naturally, I really like the desserts here. A cafe that I’d definitely recommend!
Bonus: I actually LOVE the backdrop behind when the light comes in - you can see the shadow of the coffee machine and the staff making coffee with the “Yellow Bake Day” text shadow hitting the wall.
