Food Blog | Yellow Bake Day Cakes | Eco Botanic

I definitely wouldn’t blame you if you haven’t heard of Yellow Bake Day because this is a pretty hidden home baker style shop lot providing yummy cakes and tarts, so this is a pretty hidden gem that I think more people should know about!

Yellow Bake Day Eco Botanic

Where it Is

I’m not actually sure whether there are eventually plans to make it a place where people can have cakes and drinks - a bit like Lacuna - but at present they have a shop lot without any chairs, just a spot for collection of their delectable desserts.

The shop lot is in the square around Eco Botanic - more specifically on the same row as Banana Leaf Kitchen and Starbucks. It is specifically near Yees Yoghurt and directly above AhMa TeoChew Kuih. You can access it by taking the stairs on the right of AhMa TeoChew Kuih. One flight of stairs and you will see the shoplot!

Parking is free and there’s lots available nearby.

Ordering & Collection

In general, for slice pieces of cake the ordering process is like such. They will release the weekly flavours (flavours change week to week and there’s no guarantee that a flavour will appear again) on Wednesday night. You will have to make the order via Instagram or Whatsapp for Saturday/Sunday.

Yellow Bake Day Packaging

You’ll have to pay via bank transfer and then you’ll either collect it/have it delivered accordingly on Saturday/Sunday. Collection time is anytime between 1pm and 5pm.

In terms of flavours, they usually have around 4/5 flavours per week and from the few weeks I’ve seen their menu, the price is generally RM16 for a piece of slice cake and RM12 for their Lemon Tart (which I’ll talk about later on in this post). No additional tax charges on top.

RM60 for 4-in-1 box (Normal cakes) RM45 for 4 in 1 tart box.

For their whole cakes, I’m not actually 100% sure whether it is confined to weekends only (I believe it is not except for their Monday rest day, but for that you would have to message them as well.)

The Cakes

The ones I’ve tried so far are the following (in order of how much I like them):

  1. Gula Melaka with Coconut Pandan (RM16)

  2. Lemon Tart (RM12)

  3. Biscoff Lotus with Coffee (RM16) - I would probably say its a tie between Matcha and the Biscoff Lotus with Coffee

  4. Niko Neko Matcha (RM16)

In general, what I would say about Yellow Bake Day in general is that the flavours are super rich, so I would just say that the ingredients used are definitely of quality. There’s a general formula that they have for making their cakes - and they use that formula and replicate it (maybe not exactly, but it is similar) but with different flavours.

Gula Melaka with Coconut Panda

I’m not saying that as a bad thing at all. I’m saying that their base is really good and the fact that they build on top of that with different flavours is great and allows you to try a lot of delicious cakes with a revolving door of different flavours coming in and out every week.

My personal favourite is the Gula Melaka with Coconut Pandan so far. The cake itself is really good. The fluffiness from the panda combined with the creaminess and natural sweetness coming from the coconut make it a really good combination. Coupled with the Gula Melaka to complete this, it is a really yummy cake in my books.

Next up, the lemon tart. All things considered, this is a well made lemon tart. A crumbly exterior (although it could be more crumbly) coupled with the REALLY RICH lemon flavour make it an absolute treat. It definitely is on the stronger side for flavour, so if you’re a fan of sweeter treats, I would probably recommend you to try something else but still a good option if you wanna try (and their cheapest one).

Lotus Biscoff with Coffee Yellow Bake Day

The Biscoff Lotus with Coffee is basically one of those cakes that you can’t really go wrong with. Fundamentally, I would say it is similar in flavour profile to what you would expect from a tiramisu, but in a cake form. You have small bits of biscoff as well and I think one thing to add is that there’s a lot of elements to their cakes - whether it be frosting, fruits on top, etc. to make the cake complete.

For the Matcha Cake, I will hold my hands up and admit to something. Ever since I tried the Tokyo Restaurant Matcha Cheesecake (and normal burnt cheesecake), I have been quite picky over Matcha Cakes. I would say that the flavours are definitely there - the umaminess of matcha, the hint of bitterness but I can’t help but feel as though they can up the sweetness a bit for their matcha cake (this is probably more personal taste than anything).

Star Rating

7.5/10. A good option for special occasions. The price is definitely pretty steep for cake but from what I’ve tasted, they use great ingredients and make great cakes, so it is something to consider for special occasions, that’s for sure!
