Food Blog | 全心客栈 Quan Xin Fried Rice | Taman Ungku Tun Aminah

Today’s food blog is more of a ‘quick bites’ kind of food blog (review) because I only managed to try one of their dishes, so today I’m sharing a fried rice that has gone pretty viral on Instagram - that clean looking fried rice said to be of Din Tai Fung calibre - and putting it to the test!

(Of course, today’s review is a little short and not representative of the restaurant as a whole because I only managed to sample one of their dishes)

Is it Halal?

No, this is a restaurant that serves pork (their signature is probably the pork chop fried rice so do eat at your own discretion if you’re coming here with those concerns. There are options like Satay Fried Rice and Salted Fish Fried Rice, but of course eat at your own discretion if you’re concerned about this.

Where it Is?

Man I would hate to try to find this place if I can’t speak or read Chinese because you literally can’t use the English spelling to find this restaurant. There’s a square of shops in the Taman Ungku Tun Aminah area - it is not inside the square but rather around the perimeter, so just look around the outsides of the square.

Parking is not free, so do remember to put your parking coupon in order to avoid getting saman-ed or take the risk.

Address: 14, Jalan Pendekar 18, Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, 81300 Skudai, Johor, Malaysia

What it Costs

From pictures, I actually thought this was an air conditioned restaurant (just something to take note of, I’m just stating that I thought it was from pictures on Instagram) but it is just your regular old restaurant - not complaining, literally just an observation.

But what I’ll say is that regardless of price, it is actually pretty small. The portion probably doesn’t even fill me up to 50% for lunch, so I do recommend sharing sides if you’re coming here with a few people, because it is indeed a pretty small bowl.

All prices on the menu are the net price, so you get what you see. The Pork Chop Fried Rice comes at RM9.80 and I had a 100 plus for RM2.50 just to complete the meal, bringing my total bill up to RM12.30. Just for reference, the signature Egg Fried Rice (the basic one) comes in at RM6.

Quan Xin is also available on Eater, a delivery app for Johor Bahru!

How it Tastes

Let me just first say that I LOVE Din Tai Fung Pork Chop Fried Rice. I think I need this disclaimer. Without that standard, I would say this place would probably be rated higher. I think overall the taste of the fried rice itself is fairly (key word fairly) close to the Din Tai Fung Standard.

The downfall for me is probably the Pork Chop itself. You don’t have many pieces (especially compared to the pictures on the menu) and it is pretty thin - so you can view this as a ‘healthy’ thing or as a ‘not much substance issue’. The pork chop taste itself is a bit meh but overall it is a nice lunch that you can’t really complain much about.

Restaurant Hack: they actually do have sambal belacan (which is actually quite nice) and another chilli variant that goes with your Fried Rice so you can ask either the servers or just get it yourself from the counter in front of the kitchen!

Star Rating

6.5/10. Would probably score it higher if the portions were a bit bigger and there was more meat on the plate, so I think 6.5/10 is a good place to be. Still a nice plate of fried rice that you would have no complaints about for lunch.
