Food Blog | Kirishima Shuzou Japanese Restaurant | Johor Bahru

Bringing yet another Japanese restaurant to you guys today and it is Kirishima Shuzou, a somewhat hidden gem in Johor Bahru for Japanese food lovers!

Context: Came here for lunch with my girlfriend (who loves Japanese food like no other cuisine XD. Tried most of their lunch sets, so this review will be talking about the value of coming here for lunch.

Kirishima Shuzou Japanese Restaurant Crystal Crown Hotel

Is it Halal?

This is a non-halal eatery with pork and alcoholic beverages available on their menu, so if this is something that concerns you, do eat at your own discretion.

Where it Is

It is located in the Taman Pelangi area, but more precisely at Jalan Terbrau. It is located on the first floor of the Crystal Crown Hotel - which is pretty easy to spot because it is one of the only high rise buildings in the area.

The parking is free, but a bit complicated to get to. Go into that small lane on the left side of the main lobby and go around to the back of the building, where you will find the entrance to the hotel parking. As I said, it is free, but the parking facilities are pretty bad (and this is me being quite nice with my words - but it’s indoor parking).

You have to walk past the cafe on the first floor and on the left, you will find Kirishima Shuzou!

Address: 1st floor, Crystal Crown Hotel, 117 Jalan Tebrau, Taman Century, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor

Operating Hours:

Daily: 12-2:15pm, 6-10:15pm

What it Costs

My girlfriend and me ate for a grand total of RM61.50. We had two sets, one Sushi & Soba Set (RM28) and one Tempura Set (RM25). There’s also a 10% service charge and a SST (6%). I also used FavePay to pay here (use my code I19YC to get RM1 off your first purchase on the app >RM20), so I managed to get 10% cashback (so RM6.15) for when and if I eat here again!

This is also another one of those places where you order through using your phone.

But what I’ll say is that you get quite a lot from these sets, so this is one of those places that even if you have a big appetite, you don’t really need to order anything a-la-carte if you’re getting the lunch sets.

How it Tastes

What I’ll say is that I’m pretty happy with the quality of the food here. I had more of the Tempura Set and it came with a bunch of appetisers including a yummy Chawan Mushi and Agedashi Tofu as well as a Japanese salad with a citrus based dressing. There’s even a small dessert that comes with this set).

I honestly think that the Tempura Set is pretty well-balanced - considering it’s quite easy for Tempura Rice sets to be bland and dry, but the fact that there’s so many things it comes with just makes it pretty balanced! The tempura itself is pretty yummy, and you got many different mediums, including your classic Ebi Tempura and Sweet Potato.

Sushi Set

The Sushi Set comes with five pieces of sushi and a piece fo tamago. Those, in my opinion, are pretty high quality too! I had the Maguro piece and I would say it is pretty yum! It also comes with a salad and 2 different sobas (one normal soba and one cha soba.

But if you had to ask me, I think that the Tempura set gives a really complete meal, so that would probably be my pick to order if you asked me to choose between these two.

Star Rating

8/10. A solid 8/10. The quality of food is good, staff friendly and overall I feel like this is a really good date lunch/dinner spot. (Not that crowded on the day I went and quality food)
