Food Blog | Lachèr Patisserie | The MET | Kuala Lumpur

It’s definitely been on my eat list for a while - especially in that period where they did their RM6 promotion and had that crazy queue outside for their 6th anniversary promotion - so here’s what I thought of Lacher Patisserie!

They’ve got a few branches - their central kitchen being in Kota Damansara, but you can’t dine in there, so here’s their dine-in option over at The MET.

Is it Halal

As per their website, it looks like nearly all of Lacher’s products are at least in the process of getting halal certification (most already have it). So you can actually check on the list of halal certified cakes from their website if this is something that you just want to check!

Where it Is

It is located over at The MET Corporate Towers, which is located somewhere between MITEC and Publika. I would probably recommend parking at The MET directly, even though pricing is probably on the pricier end - just because there aren’t really that many other options when eating at Lacher - of course I’m not counting the illegal roadside parking, but there aren’t that many opportunities to do that here anyways.

Parking on the weekdays is free 1st hour, subsequent hour RM4, whilst it is RM5 per entry on weekends & public holidays. There’s a few other nice options to eat here - namely Fowlboys (burger joint), Fiancee Cafe, Niko Neko, Arabica, and Culinart just to name a few. Definitely on the more “atas” side of restaurants, but there are a few options here.

Operating Hours:

Daily | 9am - 6pm

Address:

Lachèr Patisserie, LG 01-02, Menara The MET, Jalan Dutamas 2, Mont Kiara

Just note that on the day I went, a lot of their cake deliveries were not actually done yet. The cakes you could really only start ordering from 10:30am, which is when they get it from their central kitchen (at least on the day I was here). Their other hot foods are available though.

What it Costs

What I’ll say is that if you look at price alone, you will naturally say it is on the more expensive end. My opinion is quite simple regarding Lacher - that you pay for what you get. You’re getting a really high quality cake. You’re not really paying for the service, which will be a common theme of this blog post, as my opinion is that this isn’t one of those spots that is really nice to dine in at. I would almost say that the idea is that it is almost better as a takeaway cake location.

Here’s the breakdown of what I tried:

Pad Krapow Egg | RM13
PETIT Pistachio Tiramisu | RM29
PETIT Valrhona Caraibe Hazelnut Praline | RM32
Dirty Latte Sweetened | RM16
SST (6%) | RM5.40
Total: RM95.40

Which admittedly looks a bit insane when you’re considering these are just desserts for two people. Maybe take away RM15 for the Pad Krapow Egg because 2 desserts for 2 people plus a drink is probably fair, but RM40 per person is admittedly pretty steep. That said, my point remains that these are high quality desserts that I can personally vouch for.

How It Tastes

Which is why in this portion, you will hear me raving about their desserts. Naturally, their must order is probably the Pistachio Tiramisu (at least among the 3 I tried). The presentation is beautiful, and each layer is perfectly decadent and flavourful. I feel like the pistachio taste itself was a bit weak - that would almost be my small gripe with it. That it didn’t shine through as much as I expected it to.

The espresso is also not as strong so in certain ways you can’t really make out a typical tiramisu flavour. But apart from that, the sponge, mascarpone cream, and the dish as a whole - wonderful! Just don’t expect that coffee hit to be that strong with this version.

I’m also going to be a bit annoying and say that whilst you SHOULD order the Pistachio Tiramisu, my favourite was actually the Pad Krapow Egg, and I already hear the annoyance from some readers XD. I say it just because it is seriously really unique. I’ve really not had something quite like it before because you can really taste that chilli and Pad Krapow coming through with this dish. And it’s not like it’s weird because of spice alone - because Curry Puffs are pretty normal, but this one is seriously unique and you can only really understand if you order it.

Strong flavours and really nicely seasoned. The pastry almost feels like a perfect complement for the Pad Krapow dish.

I would describe the Valrhona Caraibe Hazelnut Praline as love at first bite, but not after 5 fork-fulls of the dish. SUPER, SUPER rich. It’s just one of those super rich dishes that you can’t have that much of before you feel like it’s too much. Shiny, glistening, and super rich and flavour, this is one that is really nice to share.

I will also just add one comment because I do see it as a repeating complaint about dine-in. The two common complaints are poor service and the fact that they serve their desserts directly on the tray - almost cafeteria style. I do admit, it’s a weird choice to do that cafeteria style thing - it almost cheapens their whole dish, and is one of the many reasons why I would say that I would almost prefer to takeaway rather than dine in when having Lacher. (although I’d much rather dine in usually)

Service-wise, I can understand that complaint too, in the sense that I feel like it is still a bit of a work in progress - especially for this branch - considering the prices that they are charging. Just note they do actually have free water upstairs.

Star Rating

7/10. It will definitely be the dine-in experience, as well as the price that will pull down the rating, because otherwise, it will probably land at 8.5. But fantastic cakes, a killer Pad Krapow Egg dish that is super unique and at the end of the day, a really nice ambiance (although I do see reviews that it can get quite noise in their sitting area upstairs when crowded).
