Food Blog | Oomph | Bukit Jalil | Kuala Lumpur

Wanted to share a pretty neat cafe I’ve been to lately. It’s a cafe that I really liked everything, from the food to the vibes to even the service, so here it is: Oomph Bukit Jalil! There’s another branch over at Petaling Jaya, but this is referring to the Bukit Jalil branch.

Is it Halal

I wouldn’t necessarily even call this place halal-friendly, as it serves beer and other alcohol, but their menu is indeed pork-free. Do check with staff and eat at your own discretion if this is something that concerns you.

They are also pet friendly, so this is another consideration for those with pets / those who want to avoid pets.

Where it Is

It is located in this row of neat shops in Bukit Jalil at Tropika Bukit Jalil. Parking-wise, there’s a few legal and free parking options, but from what I saw, those can fill up pretty fast and you may be forced to pay for parking if you don’t want to wait around for too long.

You can technically try your luck and park at the golf club - it’s what I did, but I don’t think they would be the biggest fans of people doing this. I’m personally not even sure what their conditions are for using their parking - just that security just lets everyone through.

Address: Oomph Tropika, E-G-2, E-G-3 & E, G-3A, Jalan Jalil Perkasa 3, Bukit Jalil, 57000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

What it Costs

The disclaimer I will make is that it’s not necessarily that cheap. I would say think Belly and the Chef kind of prices, because the prices are very comparable. I think the Big Breakfast has a RM1 differential between Oomph and Belly and the Chef.

This is what we had for two:

Grilled Chicken w Potato Rosti | RM28
Big Breakfast | RM33
Iced Caramel Latte | RM15
Almond Tiramisu | RM18
Tax (16% total) | RM15
Total: RM109

Not necessarily cheap, not necessarily expensive, but my thoughts - as you will see from the next section - is that you are getting good value for what you are paying. They also have some interesting coffee options - you can choose between a more bitter option or a fruity, sweeter option.

You can take a look at their full menu (they have a separate dinner menu as well) by clicking this link right over here.

How it Tastes

So first of, I’ll talk about the Big Breakfast, mainly because this is probably one of the most universally comparable dishes. Their Big Breakfast is LEGIT. Really good. The one I will nearly always directly compare with is Belly and the Chef and this one is a lot better. A lot more refined and well presented. Not to mention everything on the plate is really good.

They have both a piece of croissant and what I believe should be focaccia bread for you to accompany everything else on that plate. Every component, delicious! I’m a sucker for hash browns as well, so naturally, I will say that this is a really nice big breakfast with something for everyone to enjoy. Eggs are more on the watery side than most other scrambled eggs, but I think they were perfectly cooked for me personally.

The rest all immaculately seasoned and the combination just works.

Their Grilled Chicken dish at face value almost looks like a Chinese noodle dish if looked from afar. But I would say this would be the perfect dish for those a bit more conscious of your health. You get wonderful chicken - soft and juicy. The sauce is a really good complement for the chicken and like the fact that you have the option to mix it with the potato rosti to make it soft.

The potato rosti is also a really good choice to pair with the chicken, super yummy! Perfect for the more health conscious folks out there!

They also have a really big cake selection. To the point where I can almost say that they are also a specialty cake shop. I see a lot of people stopping by and grabbing a cake to go. But their cakes are good! We had the Almond Tiramisu and this one is super interesting.

I wouldn’t call it a classic tiramisu, because there are two components that make it quite different: the honey drizzled over the top - which I can understand might make it too sweet for some - and the almond is the other unique component. Makes it nutty and it’s almost a very natural combination that works really well together.

There were a few more that looked really interesting - including the Pandan Gula Melaka, but I think that was enough for us on the day.

Star Rating

8.5/10. Really nice cafe that I will personally say is one of my favourites among those that I have tried. Small sample size of dishes I’ve tried, but I am confident enough to say that I think the rest of the dishes would be equally good. Nice vibes and good service, so really, nothing I have to complain about.

There may be a queue for seats if you’re coming during a peak hour - especially if you want to seat indoors, but I personally think it’s worth the wait!
