Food Blog | Ming Kee Porridge | SS2 | Petaling Jaya

I’m not personally the biggest fan of porridge, so you can bet that it has to be a pretty tasty looking porridge for me to be the one to suggest to head to SS2 to try one particular porridge. This is Ming Kee Porridge over at SS2 (銘記粥品)!

Curry Duck Porridge from Ming Kee

Is it Halal

Definitely not halal. Serves pork, etc. Even the Curry Duck Porridge has some pork components inside, so do steer clear of this place when coming with Muslim colleagues.

Where it Is

It is located in the SS2 Square surrounding the basketball court - the one with Wai Sek Kai. It’s on the same row as Aftermeal & Jojo’s Little Kitchen (much closer to the Jojo's Little Kitchen end. Parking, as you would expect, can be challenging in the peak hours (lunch & dinner hours) so just expect to circle around for a bit before finding a parking lot.

Address: 61, Jalan SS2/64, SS2, SS 2, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Operating Hours:

Daily | 11am - 12 midnight (except Mondays | 11am - 9:30pm)

What it Costs

It’s difficult to tell you exactly what to expect pricing wise because I would add the caveat: this review was eaten by two people and I would say the portion was more fitting for 3. Then, I will also add the caveat that we didn’t order drinks - so that’s why giving you an average may not be the easiest.

If I had to estimate, an average per person cost would be around RM15 per person if you actually had what is considered a normal one person portion.

We had the following:

Curry Duck Shredded Porridge | RM15.80
Red-Braised Pork Belly Rice | RM15.40
You Tiao | RM2.80
Tax (3%) & Service Charge (6%) | RM3.06
Total | RM37.06

But you can take a look at the full menu right over here!

How it Tastes

I think the simplest way to describe how much we liked this porridge is the following: the porridge finished before the you tiao. If anything, I think that’s the purest way to tell you that this is a porridge that is super tasty (and I’m not a porridge guy).

First things first, mix the porridge really well, as there’s some things hidden underneath that really bring out the taste of the porridge. I would say that the curry taste isn’t that pronounced, I almost wish it was a bit stronger, but I really liked the duck. The duck is tasty, and as much as I think it is a slightly strange combination - roast duck with curry porridge, I think it works really well.

There’s quite a bit of pork lard for all those pork lard lovers as well, so it is something that a lot of people can enjoy (I’m very sure you can tell them to remove it if it isn’t to your fancy).

Braised Pork Belly Rice

Their braised pork belly rice is also something I feel like I would come back and eat for lunch too! Word of caution: the meat is REALLY fatty. And I really mean fatty. It seems a bit dry and lacking sauce at different points, but the combination of the pork fat, perfectly cooked egg (albeit an oily dish as a whole), and I think overall it’s a nice dish - that can be really filling for someone eating solo.

This is probably why I say that each of these dishes is probably suited for 1.5 people. The porridge is probably for 2 people to share whilst the rice is something like 1.25 people. It’s just the case that I can eat a lot haha.

Star Rating

8/10. A solid 8/10 and it is the combination of a good price point for a very big portion and the general tastiness of both dishes that I tried! Can be a bit crowded and I would imagine you might need
